Senior Development Engineer

Overall Purpose of Role:

We have identified an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Development Engineer to join the team at Bladon Jets, working with the Design and Test teams to define the product’s Verification, Validation and Certification strategies.

The candidate will be responsible for creating innovative product development and compliance programmes, delivered to cost and timescale, whilst developing and utilizing necessary tools and processes. Some Systems Engineering, Programme Management and Verification skills will be necessary to construct and deliver engineering programmes that meet all committed requirements.

It is the responsibility of Development Engineering to plan the structured verification programme, support the build, test and strip of experimental units, and ensure the acquisition of validated data. This data will be used to complete the verification of the product design and certify that the product meets its specification and regulatory requirements to support entry into service. Joining the team at this stage is a fantastic opportunity to set the benchmark for how we deliver future products as we drive forward into the Verification and Validation phases of this novel product development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will be required to compile and maintain validation and verification packages to ensure their compliance with specification, adherence to safety standards and effectiveness for production release and subsequent entry into service.
  • You will be involved in all aspects of testing micro gas turbine units in order to demonstrate compliance in an efficient and cost effective manner in accordance with the Unit Development Programme.
  • You will ensure that efficient and effective means to gather test evidence are planned and available, that experiments are effectively managed, and that quality data to support design, certification and maturity is available as necessary to support the field trial campaign.
  • You will maintain and feedback detailed product maturity records in line with the requirements of the Product Release Process.
  • The role provides a fantastic opportunity for cross disciplinary working within a small multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • You will be educated to degree level in an engineering or scientific discipline or have equivalent experience.
  • You will have sound gas turbine or related product knowledge and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • You will be motivated and have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • You will be able to demonstrate a flexible and proactive approach to a broad range of tasks.
  • You will have excellent problem solving skills and the ability to think outside of the box.

Test Engineer

Overall Purpose of Role:

We have identified an exciting new opportunity for a Test Engineer to join the team at Bladon Jets, working with the Development and Test team to perform a wide variety of development and performance testing on microturbine generator systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performing a wide variety of development and performance testing on an exciting new product.
  • Set up and configure test equipment such as:
  1. Load banks
  2. Vibration measurement systems
  3. In-house power equipment
  4. Instrumentation and data acquisition such as pressures, temperatures, flows, speed and power analysis
  5. CANbus monitoring
  6. Displacement measurement systems
  7. Fuel systems
  • Carrying out unit testing, recording of results and managing data in a highly organised manner.
  • Fault finding and diagnostics of problems.
  • Adherence to, and creation of, risk assessments, safe systems of work and procedures.
  • Active participation in design improvement proposals.
  • Creation of business processes.
  • Support certification of product.
  • Assisting with maintenance of test equipment and facilities.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • Strong background in a product development test engineering, preferably related to automotive, power generation or aerospace products. Experience with fuel / combustion systems ideal but not essential.
  • Previous experience with instrumentation and test related equipment, including calibration and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience with vibration monitoring equipment and power analysing instrumentation is ideal but not essential.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in organising test data, instrumentation logs, calibration records and other test related information.
  • Relevant ONC/HND or Degree
